Mary Me Young
Almost a decade ago, three girls in a country in the far, far north, decided they had no choice but to start chasing their dream. Instruments and equipment were borrowed from friends, and without knowing how to play, they arranged their very first practice. Even though what they produced that rainy afternoon sounded more like noise than music, they knew immediately this was something they were destined to do.
Days and months went by, songs were written and the girls kept playing together. They recorded three songs which they released as a 7" with handmade cases, and now all their hard work and denial of giving up, started to pay off. The beautiful summer of 2005, they were chosen "band of the week" on a show on Norwegian national radio, they played at some of the biggest festivals in Norway, the Oya festival and The Storaas Festival, they were mentioned in Pitchfork Media as one of the most promising bands in Norway, and they won the "Most promising band" award during UT-awards in their hometown, Trondheim, january 2006.
The girls were excited, breathtaken and inspired by all the attention and went back to the studio with their good friend Audun Storset from The Lionheart Brothers. Five new songs were captured on tape, and the winter of 2007 "the Mary EP" was released and was given 5/6 by Dagbladet, one of the leading newspapers in Norway.
And now, finally, the girls´ very first full length album is all done recorded, mixed and mastered, and ready to become the soundtrack of peoples´ lives. Produced by Audun Storset, mixed by Marcus Forsgren (The Lionheart Brothers) and mastered by Björn Engelmann in Cutting Room Stockholm. August 2010, they won a big competition in their homecountry for artists without a recorddeal, that gave them the possibility to play at The Oya Festival again, and also publishment by the greatest recordstore in Norway, Platekompaniet, of their debutalbum “in Pearls and Gold”, which will out January 2011.
The girls are thrilled by the result of the recordings, and cannot wait to start spreading their lyrics and melodies to the corners of the earth.
MARY ME YOUNG is a fairytale soon to be continued.
